Anyone who travels through the area around Rollins Road and IL Rte. 83 knows the impact that trains have on traffic. Nearly 50 cargo and commuter trains cross Rollins Road each day at this intersection. Maintaining this vital economic artery, and the flow of goods and passengers, is essential to the success of the project.

To achieve this, a temporary track will be constructed during late summer and fall of 2013. This will allow uninterrupted train service, while giving the contractor enough room to build the rail bridge over Rollins Road. This temporary track, and the at-grade crossing with the temporary Rollins Road, will be placed about three feet higher than the existing track. This will match the height of the new track crossing Rollins Road.

Once a substantial portion of the new Rollins Road pavement is completed during the summer of 2014, delays from train traffic will be eliminated.
